[ Oh.. Telescopic device. He must be super old. Not old currently, just time wise (she's come to accept timey-wimey shenanigans at this point fairly easily). She approaches, a little closer, tentatively holding up the camera first. Her nails taps at the lens. ]
Kind of? I guess it's the same concept as a telescope but it doesn't zoom in.. You can look through it on the other side [ she flips it around to show him where your eye goes!! ] and you can see what you'll.. Capture.
[ She tucks her hair behind her ear. ]
And I was just getting the stuff behind you. I didn't even notice you at first until I looked at the pic!
[ He hesitantly bends down a bit to get a glimpse of the lens with his good eye, looking rather curious. Capture? How does it capture something? ]
It... creates pictures? [ He grasps that concept easily enough. And he's more than a little amazed as he glances at the polaroid. Baffled, awed, curious. It's a mixture of emotions. ]
But - how does it do that? It's certainly not paint. And it looks so real. Like a moment snatched out of time.
[ It isn't paint, and it looks real because in a way it is. Documenting one wild moment of both their lives, with Lottie taking the photo and Dimitri unintentionally posing for it. She can explain how it does it later (does she know the science behind it?? Nope! Will she pretend like she does?? Yes!), right now she gently offers him the photo in question. ]
Feel it. It's way different than what you're expecting.
[ Dimitri is fascinated. He takes the glossy photo carefully and holds it between his fingers, tentatively feeling the surface. It's... reflective. Some kind of film? Not glass, certainly. He's still puzzling over it when he replies. ]
That's... fascinating. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was magic.
[ Although a part of him still thinks of it as such. ]

[ He smiles sheepishly. ]
You seemed to be pointing it at me - or what was behind me - and - is it some kind of lens? Or telescopic device?
[ That's the closest thing he can think of. The idea of just generating images out of virtually nothing (to his eye) just doesn't occur to him. ]
