Well, alright. If you're sure...

[ He seems a little amused. He takes the brooch and paces out into the field and sets it down and then returns, grabbing a spear from the weapon's rack as he does. He gives her a brief nod and then gives a bit of a running hop and sends the spear racing through the air at his new target! ]

[erbe]

[Tohsaka puts her hand on her hip as she watches the lance go hurtling through the air. Its piercing tip hits what seems to be an invisible barrier and is repelled away. Now, Tohsaka doesn't want this to be fool-proof. She didn't actually put much power into making the shield because she doesn't really, truly care about Dimitri's safety. But she did put enough in there to make a decent showing of it being a protective charm.

The smile on her face is a tad smug with a hint of pride.]

Oh, well done-!

[ Dimitri seems genuinely impressed as he trots over to pick up the fallen spear so he can replace it on the rack. Likewise he scoops up the brooch. He returns to her with a smile. ]

I'm sure this will help me in the future, Ayako. You went through a great deal of effort for me... I appreciate it.

[Okay, okay! Time to put on the cute little lady act. Time to precious and demure and—]

I'm glad that you do, Dimitri. I spent a lot of time trying to find something that looked like it suit you. The sapphires match your eyes, and since we met at night I felt the crescent moon shape was appropriate. Since you seem to be a front-lines type of man I hope it can be of some use to you.

[She allows her words to settle between them. Her inflection that of a young woman swelling with excitement that her present is well received.]

Did... you still want to visit that café? I didn't bring any money with me, but I could offer you my company.

You've certainly put a lot of thought into it. I'll hold onto and keep it close.

[ How could he do anything else? He offers a slight bow to her. ]

If you'd like, I'd be happy to accompany you. We didn't much chance to speak on Alenroux and I imagine it would be good to find out a little more about one another. Especially if we end up working with one another in the future.

Work together? Goodness! I'm not sure how much help I would be aside from little magecraft and small sciences. Have you always preferred the lance?

[Tohsaka dips her head a little to return his bow before falling inline next to him. Goodness, he's so... big. Are Dimitri and Dark the same size? No. One might be bigger than the other, but from her vantage point it's hard to tell. She's always looking up... and up... and up. Either way, she makes sure to always turn the conversation back on him as he leads them to the restaurant.]

[ He finds her... very small. About the same height as some other people he's known. Another point of comparison. He tries not to think about. ]

Magic and magecraft are highly useful. Don't undersell yourself.

[ Dimitri smiles as they walk - and he tucks the brooch on as well. ]

The sword or lance, but the lance primarily, yes. It's been my preferred weapon for a very long time.

Any particular reason? You look like someone who already has a lot of range. Just doubling down on that?

[Because he's big. Like SO big.]

Mmm. I suppose so...

[ He frowns thoughtfully. ]

It's a tradition in my own country - the lance or sword are the usual weapons of knights and nobility.

Are you sure it's not that your big meaty hands would snap a bow?

[OOPS A LITTLE OF HER REAL PERSONALITY LEAKED OUT. Oh, well. This just means she's not entirely inconsistent with their first night, right?]

Honestly, I had that trouble with lances and swords as well...

[ He sighs, slightly despondent. Oops. ]

Ahahaha... is that so? I guess then our first meeting makes a lot more sense. You don't do that to bone too, do you?

[Don't touch her tiny body it might snap in half (not in the fun way)]

...I do my best not to. I have control over myself.

[ And human bone is a little hard to break, really. You need leverage! ]

My days of breaking things inadvertently seem to be thankfully behind me by now.

Well, that's reassuring. Mm— where is this café that you fancy? Is it far?

[ And so it is. He finds them a table and settles in with a little smile. ]

Where are you spending most of your time these days? Not that there's many places to be at the moment.

[erbe]

[Well... best to speak "technical truths" without revealing too much. Tohsaka takes a seat at the same table on the opposite side of him.]

I'm not very strong, so after I heard about what happened over that extremely serious communion announcement I decided to start looking into texts this world had on alchemy and alchemical necromancy. I just want to do what I can to help, you know?

[More like she doesn't want to become another Unfortunate Test Subject.]

I completely understand. My own skill at magecraft is rather weak. So focusing on what you're best at is probably for the better.

[ He gives her a curious glance. ]

I assume that they had magic in your world; not all places have a regimented study of it. Did yours?

[erbe]

[Tohsaka replies with a gentle affirmative by the ways of an, "Mm-hm." Her hands take hold of the menu and her eyes rove over the letters.]

Mages are incredibly secretive, though. So most who learn come from a family line that has been practicing for ages.

Mmm.

[ He seems thoughtful about that. ]

I know some guard their secrets jealously, but Faerghus had a mage academy in our capital. One of the best in Fodlan.

[erbe]

Oh, sounds a little like Clock Tower in London. Does having magecraft as a widespread phenomena not cause trouble, though?

[Look at Constance and Annette and then tell her no, Dimitri. Tell her.]

...it's hard for me to say. Magic is as much a part of our society and life as something like... farming. Or blacksmithing. Some people misuse the power they learn for ill, but is that not the same of anything?

[ Constance did nothing wrong. ]

[erbe]

Would you say the same of all types of powers?

I think it varies by degrees. Some... obviously... can be misused to much more terrible ends.

[erbe]

[Philosophical debates can get too dangerous, so she decides to change the subject.]

What's your favorite item on the menu?

[hauntedking]

Oh - I'm quite fond of their tea collection.

[ He glances down at the menu. ]

Especially their herbal blend.
